Leicester Day Trip

On 2 October Peter the tutor, Ye Lim and I went to Leicester for the day on a whim. It was a very interesting day overall.

The train ride was about half an hour from the Nottingham station, which is a bus ride away from Nottingham at 1.60 per person. The train costs are a bit steep, usually about 10 pounds per person per ride, but because we were travelling in 3, we got a group discount- 17.50 for all of us for return.

Bus ride is pleasant enough, one of those ones with seats and table. Very European looking. Leicester is one town away from Nottingham, a town like you would expect from any English towns.

Ye Lim and Peter. Peter has been in Beijing for about 5 years before he came back to England, so obviously you can see the "Asian" influence here.

View from outside the train at Nottingham station. A football or rugby match was on this day, possibly football, so the cops were out ready. This is around 1pm in the afternoon. There were people running around Nottingham city chanting.

Leicetser Station. Looks identical to Nottingham station.
Streets of Leicester.

Look at that building. it is....wonderfully tasteless.
Station from afar.
Leicester Town. very English, yes?
After walking a bit towards town, there was a beautiful parkish thing- like a square more like. I like these things about England.

We walked by the market place.

This reminded me a lot of markets in Korea.
Now into the centre of town.

Near the mall, or shopping centre
Pretty building within the shopping centre. So many John Lewis shops in England.

Apple Store in Leicester!

Olde Sweet Shop. Peter bought some banana sweets and white chocolate for us to try.
Inside of the shop.

Walking towards Victoria Park, Leicester. There is a museum you can see here which we went into.
New Walk Museum & Art Gallery.

Pretty funny exhibition with Barbies..about Space! There were other exhibitions, but i was not allowed to take photos. Modern art things on display. I realised that I love art galleries!
View from an overpass-
Around Leicester, there are two universities, one of which is University of Leicester. It is much like Auckland in that it is spread about around the town.

A hall where concerts and stuff is held at. Not sure what it is called though.
Inside Victoria park!

Then we went to Peter's house, where we were treated with tea and biscuits. Then we visited his Dad at a garden where they grow vegetable. It is a Leicester land that they allot out to residents to utilise as a little garden.

Then we went back to town, by which stage we were starving, so went to a Chinese place called Opium- a high class Chinese restaurant. Here we had a bit of a spat between us so the mood was not that great..and Peter was having some drama with his girlfriend, so that was a little more awkward.

But all in all, was a good day in Leicester. Leicester is how I imagined an English town to be. It was old, but with a tonne of new things to add to it.
