Goosefair 8 October 2010

The Nottingham Goose Fair is an annual fun fair held in Nottingham, UK, during the first week of October. It is largely provided by travelling fair people. Much like our Easter Show, but a lot bigger.

According to Wikipedia, "the fair dates back more than 700 years and was once said to be Europe's biggest, even today it is only second to 'The Hoppings' held in Newcastle upon Tyne."

"The Goose Fair started as a trade event and enjoyed a reputation for its high-quality cheese, although it is now known for its rides and games. Its name is derived from the thousands of geese that were driven from Lincolnshire to be sold in Nottingham.

Originally, the fair was held on the 21st of September, but in 1752, with the change to the Gregorian calendar, it moved to early October. The duration of the fair was shortened from eight days to three days in the 1800s."

So I went to Nottingham Goosefair with Renae and Fidelia.
We went from City Centre by tram to "the forest" station where the fair was being held at.

From outside.
As we walked in, we saw the signs for food and the rides. fuuun.

Me being silly!
Ren and Fi!

We went on the Ferris Wheel to figure out what to do, as it is quite big. Thought a bird eye view might benefit us.

The view on one side.

It was starting to get darker.

Fi and Renae went on many rides, but being a coward that I am, i only went on about 3.

What's well known about Goosefair in terms of food is the toffee apple. In terms of other foods, there were many, including burgers, hot dogs, curry and chips and mushy peas. In England people seems to enjoy this mushy peas thing...its like....mashed up peas...they just..eat it out of a cup. mmm.

Many games you can play to win these things. AHHH love meerkats.

Rides that people went on.

Cuuuute dog... trying to get people to play the game by being "pathetic" and getting sympathy votes. quite cute.

Of course had ice cream here.

Renae and Fi went on the sling thing, much like what we have in Auckland.

Me being silly once more.

We met with other people from Nottingham later on, then went on a few rides together.

The money shot. Cops were more than happy to oblige!

On our way back. It was properly dark.

Impression? Bigger and better than Easter Show, the rides seemed a bit more solid. But might be biased. :D
